Teepee Canyon agate, also known as Hell’s Canyon agate, is a type of agate found in the Black Hills of South Dakota. These agates are known for their red, white, pink, and orange fortification banding, which is similar to Fairburn agates, the official state gemstone of South Dakota. Home to several agate mining operations up until the 1980’s, Tepee Canyon is in an area no longer open to federal mining claims and can only be self collected.
